[OOC]
Backtagging: Yes!
Threadhopping: I'm okay with it if everyone else is!
Fourthwalling: I'll take it on a case by case basis, but for the most part I don't mind.
Offensive subjects (elaborate): Gamma's from a fairly violent series, and he's likely to be pretty brutal when he's killing people/monsters. His series does briefly mention an attempted rape, but that's not going to come up in RP.

[IC]
Hugging this character: Go for it, he'll be awkward as hell. Seriously, who would hug this dude?
Kissing this character: He'll be shocked but flattered if you're a girl. Guys, prepare to have your face slammed into the floor.
Flirting with this character: He might flirt with you first if you're a girl. Otherwise, flirt away.
Fighting with this character: Sure!
Injuring this character (include limits and severity): Yeah, he can take it. Just keep his abilities in mind, he's no pushover.
Killing this character: Ask first since there would be IC consequences for him.
Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: Sure!

[Shipping]
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Preferred fandom ships: Fayren, Wolfina, Sheryl...look, it was a short series, he didn't get many options.
Fandom ships I will play: See the above!
Fandom ships I'm uninterested in: C.T. Smith, Elwood, Angelle
Non-fandom ships: Yes, this is an option. Just know that he's on Hard Mode because of his feelings of regret and love for Fayren, so it would take a shitload of CR and slow burn scenarios.

CANON INFORMATION

CHARACTER NAME: Gamma Akutabi
CANON: Zombie Powder
HISTORY: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zombiepowder.#Setting_and_plot

STRENGTHS:
SOFT SPOT - As devastating as Gamma is against his opponents, he has a weakness for women and children. When fighting against a murderous child bandit, he fought with his left hand and sustained multiple injuries...up until it was revealed that the bandit was just an old man taking a triple dose of a drug that made him appear youthful. Not only will he go easy on women and children in a fight, but he also can't turn away when they're in need, and tends to treat them more humanely. He's damn awkward about it, and seems like he can't just be straightforward with his kindness (trying to ditch someone he wants to protect, bluntly telling a kid he's going to get horribly killed and unable to protect his sick sister if he keeps working for a pickpocketing gang). But his intentions are good, even if his methods are a little questionable.
STREET SMART - Gullible Gamma is not. He's been a mercenary for far too long to have his instincts about a person's character dulled. He's seen every trick in the book and doesn't fall for traps. The only time he seems to let his guard down is hinted to be intentional -- the look on his teenage sidekick's face begging for a girl to be helped forced him to go along with it anyway, but he was prepared for the surprise assault just the same. He's well-accustomed to dealing with nasty people and knows how they think, partially because he used to think that way too. He might be young, but he's seen and done plenty to make him savvy to the cruelty of this world and the other realms.
INFLUENTIAL - Gamma is well-connected. He may not be charming, but he does have the power to influence those he meets. Whether it's fear, admiration, or respect, he's absolutely unforgettable. As a result, he maintains a lot of connections that could prove useful. People tend to owe him favors for his past good deeds. Asking for information tends to be fruitful. Got a rare medical condition that only a highly skilled doctor can cure? He knows a guy (or a woman in this case). Looking for a special artifact in the outworlds? He might have run into someone who specializes in that kind of thing.
FLAWS:
PETTY - Gamma can be ridiculously childish in so many ways. He tends to be stubborn about doing things his way and forcing others to accept his commands blindly. He may not always get what he wants, and he'll be sulky and uncooperative if that's the case, but he'll still loudly insist on things that are more convenient for him. He's easily teased and goaded by his friends, too -- when he's mocked for not being able to ski, he throws himself right into it and repeatedly falls facefirst into the snow like a huge loser. He throws sulk festivals when other people are better at things than he is, which...is surprisingly common. He focused all of his attention on combat, so he doesn't have any remarkable or useful talents.
JADED - Gamma doesn't have much faith in people. He will always assume others will have to rely on him for protection, so he's genuinely surprised when another person displays a lot of spunk and skill. He can be too protective to the point where he's crippling another person's growth. For example, he repeatedly tries to avoid training Elwood for fear that he'll walk down a path of evil the way he did at the boy's age, and his partner chides him for this. He has a hard time trusting other people to stay alive without his direct involvement, with the only exception being Smith (his partner).
BRUTAL - The only time Gamma ever shows mercy is when it's convenient. Otherwise, he'll mow down villains, monsters, and henchmen without batting a lash. He's violent and downright cruel when he slaughters his opponents. Once he's met someone he deems to be scum, their life ceases to have any value whatsoever. He's killed far too many people to even think twice, but he will occasionally let people run away without pursuit if he's got more important things to handle. It's best not to cross him.

CANON ABILITIES: Like most shounen protagonists, Gamma tends to be on the Extra side of things. The armor nailed onto his right arm allows him to catch bullets, sometimes nabbing them right as they emerge from a gun barrel. The armor also allows him to catch a bazooka shell as it explodes without causing him a single scratch. He's a tough son of a bitch who recovers quickly from injuries (though not supernaturally so) and can take a lot of pain without succumbing. Gamma is also able to utilize a unique and ancient sword art called 'Karinzanjutsu' which manifests an aura of black flames. Though the flames move in the same fashion as fire, they don't seem to burn, and instead seem capable of manipulating physical objects. He uses them as a shield to protect people from an explosion, as tendrils for people to grab onto, and as an extension for the chain of his sword so he can throw it a greater distance while keeping it tethered to his person.

He also has a chainsaw sword.

AU INFORMATION

AU CHARACTER NAME: Gamma Akutabi
AGE: 22
POSITION: Instructor - Artifact Research and Handling (declined to instruct others in combat)
AU BACKSTORY: Gamma has lived a brutal and violent lifestyle for as long as he can remember. Even as a boy he had a reputation, and he often pursued high-risk high-reward jobs for money. He craved power, chased immortality, and cut down anyone who stood in his way without flinching. He was heartless.

But he wasn't invincible.

At seventeen, his mercenary group went up against a daemon that far outclassed the lot of them. Everyone was killed except for Gamma. He managed the killing blow, but his injuries were so severe that he would have died if he hadn't been found by the witch of the woods. She was young, beautiful, kind, and gifted at healing and necromancy. His wounds were so severe that she couldn't treat them with healing, but was able to use a highly developed necromantic spell that kept death at bay. So long as she lived, his life force was bound to hers, and his death was successfully put in stasis. She nursed him back to health, and it was the first time in Gamma's entire life that he experienced a gentle and loving touch. He fell deeply in love with her.

The daemon who had injured him so severely had a lover, one that came after Gamma. In his zeal to destroy her, he accidentally killed his girlfriend too. It devastated him, and forced him to look at the man he'd become...and the man he truly wanted to be. He emerged from his grieving with a new goal of finding the legendary Rings of the Dead to harvest zombie powder, and resurrect his love to make amends for his greatest sin.

He sought the aid of a famed and retired mercenary in Japan who held the knowledge of Karinzanjutsu. Gamma demanded to be taught the art, but the mercenary turned him away, repulsed by Gamma's long list of crimes and ugly deeds. Frustrated, Gamma traveled to England in pursuit of a Ring of the Dead rumored to be hidden within the city. It turned out there was another person who sought the ring just as fiercely as he did, and the two fought viciously and brutally. In the end, neither could kill the other, and they decided to be partners out of sheer respect for each other's skills.

Once Gamma had his first ring, he became a target for other ring hunters. Most were easy enough to cut down, but there was one creature of twisted fey that was more clever than the others. The fey took a child hostage and demanded the ring in exchange for the child's life. Gamma was torn, for surrendering the ring would be tantamount to forsaking his girlfriend and neglecting his promise to bring her back to life. But he also knew she wouldn't want a life bought at the cost of an innocent, so he surrendered the ring. The fey gave it back, revealing itself to be a servant of the Japanese mercenary who sought to test Gamma's worthiness. In four years, Gamma mastered the sword art of Karinzanjutsu. He sought blacksmiths who were supremely skilled in working with legendary metals and commissioned the plates of black armor to be hammered into his right arm and side to increase his reflexes and durability...and also to hide the rotting flesh that was starting to spread. With the witch's death, her spell began to erode and he had to rely on experimental medicine from a brilliant doctor and scientist whose methods were extremely questionable and probably illegal. Nonetheless, the doctor was able to provide him with medicine that kept his body from eroding with the warning that too much stress would accelerate the process and leave him as a mindless zombie if he couldn't accumulate the life-multiplying properties of zombie powder.

One day, Gamma's partner contacted him and suggested that he take a job at Daybreak Academy. Gamma laughed his ass off, because who could possibly be more unsuited to teach children than a violent ex-mercenary ring hunter? However it was pointed out that in exchange for his services, he'd be connected to a multitude of resources that could help him locate more Rings of the Dead. Besides, a school full of kids developing powers was bound to attract the attention of the Outworld creatures as a threat best snuffed out early on. So? Work as a teacher, follow leads that would help him gather twelve Rings, and keep some kids alive. They might even have other ways of restoring his dead girlfriend that didn't rely on zombie powder. It wasn't a bad deal, and he could still manage to cash in a few bounty hunts in his downtime. Reluctantly he agreed.

AU PERSONALITY DEVIATION: There's not much deviation of note, mostly because a lot of Gamma's past and motivations were never fully explored in the short-run of his series. He still behaves the same -- intimidating, smirking, and occasionally struck down with surprise moments of embarrassing idiocy. Where he may deviate depends on the CR he's able to establish. Should someone take on the role of his partner, that relationship might temper him in a different fashion. He's also more likely to be influenced by the students of Daybreak and almost guaranteed to grow fond of some of them, possibly even to the point of training a select few to teach them how to survive independently of him. Gamma is fairly laid back, but is stubborn to a fault, so it's hard to say if he'll get along with the other faculty members or not. As long as he's allowed to pursue leads concerning the Rings of the Dead, he probably won't cause TOO much trouble.

RACE: Human with Daemon Blood
SECRET SOCIETY: N/A

POWERS: Gamma's inherent powers all stem from his bloodline. It's made him more durable, strong, and fast. The black armor grafted onto his arm and side has runic properties to increase his reflexes overall, but only his right side is fast enough to catch bullets. While the Karinzanjutsu could be taught to anyone, it normally takes 32 years to master. Gamma's demon blood and sheer will allowed him to master it in 4.

HOUSING: Gamma's content to have a room to himself and doesn't particularly care where it is. He'll take one in the faculty dorms, or be a floor RA. Just let him sleep.

RP SAMPLE
INTERVIEW SAMPLE PROMPT
(The following scenario is available to all characters who are apping in and is considered canon - all prospective teachers for the academy are interviewed by staff members to ensure they're a good fit. The definition of "good fit" seems to vary wildly from staffer to staffer.)

1. TELL US ABOUT YOUR EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND. If you're talking academics, there's nothing to mention. I didn't go to school. I'm literate, I know my way around places, and I'm good at staying alive. It's the skills you want me to pass on, right? As long as you're not planning on sticking me in some sort of literature or math course, I'll manage.

2. TELL US ABOUT YOUR TEACHING EXPERIENCE. None. ...What do you want me to say? I've never even been around kids all that much either. What's hard about telling them stuff I already know? I don't need experience and formal training for that.

3. WHAT UNIQUE PERSPECTIVES DO YOU THINK YOU BRING TO THE ACADEMY? I used to be a mercenary. I've walked amongst nightmares for most of my life, and I know how they think, how they act. That gives me an edge most noble warriors don't have, and an understanding that they'd never experience. You'll do well to have someone around who's been on both sides of the playing field.

4. WHAT, IN YOUR OPINION, IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING FOR A SCHOOL TO PROVIDE TO ITS STUDENTS ...........Hell if I know. Give 'em the brains to know when to run from a fight they can't win, I guess. [It's compassion, but he can't really figure out a way to say it.]

5. DESCRIBE YOUR COMMUNICATION STYLE AND HOW YOU INTERACT WITH COWORKERS. Communication style? What's that? Like sign language and stuff? I can use a telephone easy enough. As for coworkers, don't know, never met 'em. I get along with people sometimes, I tend to be pretty laid back. They stay out of my business, I stay out of theirs, everyone's happy.

6. HOW DO YOU ENCOURAGE STUDENTS TO PUSH THEMSELVES AND TAKE THEIR SCHOOLWORK SERIOUSLY? Uh...depends on whether I can take the schoolwork seriously, I guess. Some of these classes seem worthless compared to the others, don't you think? ...No, fine, I'm sure biology is great, yeah yeah. I'm talking about what they'll do with it, make sure that if it's a skill critical to their survival, they know it, even if I gotta be blunt about what'll happen if they think the consequences won't apply to them.

7. HOW DO YOU MANAGE STUDENTS WHO ARE DEFIANT OR ACTING OUT? Probably tell 'em to stop bein' a jackass. If they don't want to learn they can take someone else's class and waste their time. I'm not going to slap 'em around if that's what you're asking. I'm not really a 'talk about your problems' kind of guy either. They can do what they want, they'll just have to do it on someone else's time.

8. HOW DO YOU ENCOURAGE AND MENTOR STUDENTS WHO ARE STRUGGLING OR DEPRESSED? I don't. They can figure out their own problems, why would they come to me about things like that? [By which he means he can't get involved because he doesn't know how to be emotionally supportive, but he'll kick someone's ass if the problem has an ass to be kicked.]

9. WHAT, IN YOUR OPINION, IS THE MOST IMPORTANT LESSON TO TEACH EVERY STUDENT WHO WALKS THROUGH OUR DOORS? Wait, didn't you ask this already? ...Oh, I figured that was the same thing, damn. How to stay alive without losing who you are. ...I don't know how to explain the last part. Fine! Just staying alive, then, who cares?

10. ONE OF THE REQUIREMENTS OF ACADEMY FACULTY IS PROTECTING STUDENTS FROM THAT WHICH MIGHT DO THEM HARM. TELL US HOW EQUIPPED YOU ARE TO DO THIS. You've seen my sword, right? It's pretty sweet. Look, you don't have to worry about this part. Some big ugly twerp comes stomping around, I'll put it down.
